The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has emphasised the significance of responsible journalism and adherence to the journalism code of conduct.

MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja underscored the necessity of complying with the Code of Conduct and maintaining journalistic integrity in reporting.

“Journalists must maintain utmost levels of integrity and accuracy in their reporting,” said Mr Karanja during a Baite TV and Tuliza FM journalists’ sensitisation forum in Meru County.

He stressed that journalism demands unwavering dedication to accuracy, integrity, and adherence to ethical standards. He also urged the journalists to prioritise fact-checking to verify information before disseminating it to the public.

“The presence of inaccuracies in reporting has detrimental effects on both the credibility of the media and the potential to perpetuate misinformation. This can foster discord within the society”, he expressed.

He further highlighted the crucial role of integrity in journalism and in fostering public trust among the audiences.

"Integrity serves as the fundamental pillar on which trust between the media and the public is founded. Journalists have a responsibility to uphold the highest ethical standards in their work to enhance professionalism”, he emphasised.
