Media Council of Kenya Mombasa Regional Coordinator Ms Maureen Mudi has been selected to serve in a multisectoral coordination and collaboration forum on election preparedness in Coast Region.

Ms Mudi will serve as the secretary of the forum headed by Coast Regional Commissioner Mr John Elungata with Mr Antony Ndegwa from the Mombasa security peace forum being elected as the co-chair.

Constitution of the forum follows the establishment of the national multisectoral consultative forum and the multisectoral election security forum established in October 2021 and January 2022 respectively.

Ms Mudi says the media plays a critical role in ensuring voters make informed choices during elections besides enhancing cohesion among communities through responsible reporting.

Mr Elungata noted that arising from past experiences, the success of a General Election largely depends on the state preparedness by all stakeholders in providing a conducive environment for the elections.

Members of the team of about 30 that will meet at least once monthly to deliberate on election issues include senior security teams, religious leaders, civil societies, academicians, opinion leaders, Kenya Wildlife Service, hoteliers, Kenya Red Cross Society and transport stakeholders among others.
