The Media Council of Kenya Chief Executive Officer Mr David Omwoyo has called for a clear career growth path for Public Relations and Communications professionals.
Mr Omwoyo told the 2021 Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) Annual Summit in Mombasa today that this will guarantee efficient service delivery.
He at the same time affirmed the place of communications and public relations in organisations, saying that reputation management is key to any organisation’s survival.
“Reputation cannot be quantified and hence should be carefully handled. You cannot outsource reputation”, said Mr Omwoyo.
He also called upon PRSK to expand into offering management trainings for communication professionals, to prepare them for leadership positions.
Mr Omwoyo affirmed the Council’s commitment to continue supporting PRSK in its efforts to advance excellence in public relations and communication management and ensuring that the practice continues to thrive within the ethical framework defined by the profession.
“The Council will continue engaging PRSK in initiatives aimed at promoting proficiency and competence in the PR profession in Kenya while also furnishing practitioners with essential skills that support their career progression”, said Mr Omwoyo.
“The Media Council is working with the PRSK to improve the professional development of PR and Communications professionals and will reach out for consensus from the Public Service Commission to provide a professional, legally acknowledged umbrella for this group of professionals”, he added.
He also revealed that the Council has created a special accreditation category for PR and Communications officers in public service, adding that those accredited will access various interventions from the Council including capacity building and safety response initiatives.
