The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has underscored the significance of ethical reporting and adherence to the journalistic code in creating an informed society and enhance trust in media.
MCK Assistant Director for Training and Curriculum Development Christine Nguku says adherence to the Code of Conduct for the Practice of Journalism remains the biggest contributor to attaining public trust in the media.
“The Code of Conduct is not just a guideline but a foundation upon which we build trust with our audiences. It is essential that we adhere to these standards to maintain the credibility of the journalism profession in Kenya”, she said during a media tour in Meru and Embu counties.
She encouraged journalists to always verify facts, urging them to apply discretion when tackling sensitive stories.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja enumerated the challenges journalists endure currently considering the emerging issues in the media industry.
“We understand the challenges that come with the fast-paced nature of news reporting especially in digital media. The ethical standards that are the backbone of our profession must not be compromised by any means. We must ensure that the information we put out is accurate, verified, and presented in a manner that is fair and balanced”, he said.
The media tour is part of the MCK’s broader mission aimed at maintaining high ethical standards in journalism and content creation.
