The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) will commemorate the International Day to End Impunity and Crimes against Journalists (IDEI), on November 2nd 2020, at the Savora Stanley Hotel in Nairobi County, under the theme: Keeping Truth Alive.
IDEI is an international proclamation set under a resolution of United Nations General Assembly celebrated annually on the 2nd of November, in recognition to the far-reaching consequences of impunity, especially on crimes against journalists. The dates coincide with the assassination of two French journalists in Mali.
The event will be presided over by H.E. Kyle McCarter, the US Ambassador to Kenya, accompanied by Ms. Esther Koimett, the Principal Secretary at the State Department for Telecommunications & Broadcasting in the Ministry of ICT, Innovations and Youth Affairs and Dr. Sule Aker, the President of the World Association of Press Councils (WAPC).
The event will be hosted by the Media Council of Kenya, led by Chair of the Council, Mr. Maina Muiruri and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. David Omwoyo.
