The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has reiterated its commitment to build the capacity of journalists in telling devolution stories across the country.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Mr Jackson Karanja mentioned the importance of collaboration between journalists and county officials to enable flow of information while reporting on devolution stories.
“The Council remains committed to ensuring there is seamless working relations between journalists and county governments. With access to information, journalists are able to accurately report on devolution stories across the country”, said Mr Karanja at a meeting with Tharaka Nithi County Government Communications Department.
He made reference to the pact signed between MCK and the Council of Governors in February this year, noting that it is aimed at enhancing collaborative capacity building of county communications and media staff among other issues.
“Issues on access to information are very critical to journalists when reporting on stories. The pact signed between the two institutions will ensure that the people of Tharaka Nithi have access to timely, accurate and relevant information that is of public interest”, said Mr Karanja.
Tharaka Nithi Political Advisor and Head of Media Mr Kennedy Muriithi applauded the visit by the MCK Region Coordinator. He further stated that the county government of Tharaka Nithi has enjoyed a cordial working relationship with journalists and strives to ensure timely dissemination of information.
“Tharaka Nithi County Government has been working well with journalists despite hitches but we endeavor to ensure that any news or information regarding the working of the county government is relayed accurately and timely”, said Mr Muriithi.
Tharaka Nithi Director of Communications Mr Naftaly Kinyua welcomed the idea of a partnership between the Council and the county in holding such engagements aimed at bolstering access to information between the journalists and county officials.
