The Media Council of Kenya recognises the crucial role of regional and community media outlets in ensuring media diversity and freedom of expression.

It is in recognition of this that the Council partnered with the Government Advertising Agency (GAA) in a campaign to sensitise media managers and sales executives on sourcing advertisements run by the public sector. The sensitisation forums which targeted media outlets in Kisumu, Migori, Homabay and Kisii counties took place between 8th and 11th June 2021.

The engagement magnified the role played by regional and community media, specifically based on their local reach and ability to disseminate information in local dialect.

MCK Regional Coordinator Evans Teddy urged media houses to implement proactive marketing strategies that will help clients realise value proposition and long-lasting user experience.

GAA Senior Advertising Officer Winnie Rotich encouraged participants on the importance of compliance to ensure that they fully met all Public Sector Advertising requirements prior to submitting their tendering documents.

The GAA reaffirmed its commitment to working with MCK to realise this agenda through supportive policies, strategies, and continuous capacity building mechanisms.

The over 45 participants who attended the meeting commended the Media Council and GAA for the informative session.

“I also want to say thank you for organising such a rare sitting, very informative and educative spiced with opportunity for networking,” stated Musa Naviye from Peace FM.

“I appreciate MCK for organising this sensitisation forum, we have moved a step!” noted Pius Okemwa from Mwamogusii TV.
