The Media Council of Kenya has encouraged National and County governments to utilise the Kenya News Agency as a major platform for sharing information, owing to its wide reach.

MCK Director for Media Training and Development Mr Victor Bwire says KNA “is a huge resource that administrative functions and public institutions can tap into to enhance development communication for public good”.

“County Commissioners should work closely with journalists to help in contextualising the National Government development agenda for increased behaviour change, social mobilisation and public know-how”, said Victor Bwire when he met Siaya Deputy County Commissioner Enock Nyarango.

“MCK is ready to partner with the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to train and sensitise the County Commissioners and their respective administration officers on media relations and information packaging; to help in maximising on the power of the media in national government projects advocacy”, said Mr Bwire.

The Council also engaged journalists from Mikayi Radio, Radio Ratego and Kababa FM in Siaya County where MCK Kisumu Regional Coordinator Teddy Evans emphasised the need for journalists to build working relationships with local news sources for effective coverage of issues.

“Journalists should minimise harm in their coverage and shun any form of stereotyping in their coverage”, said Mr Teddy.
