The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has committed to building the capacity of public communicators in various thematic areas to help promote an informed public.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Mr Karanja Jackson said the Council aims to support public communicators by building their professional capacity to help ensure a steady and reliable relay of information to society.
“The Council is looking to continue growing the capacity of public communicators in the counties to help in fostering seamless information flow on the workings of national and devolved governments”, said Mr Karanja during a meeting at the Kenya News Agency (KNA) office in Garissa County.
Mr Karanja reiterated the importance of regular trainings in enhancing accurate and efficient dissemination of information by public communication officers.
“By providing training and resources to public communicators, the Council helps to ensure that information is disseminated effectively and accurately which in turn leads to better public understanding of important issues and improved trust in media and communication channels”, added Mr Karanja.
Garissa KNA County Information Officer Mr Jacob Sankok lauded the visit and the commitment made by the Council, noting that it would go a long way in helping to properly communicate the government’s agenda.
“We as public communicators carry a significant role and responsibility of relaying information to the public on government undertakings and this helps the society to remain abreast with happenings in the country”, said Mr. Sankok.
He said that the move will contribute to the overall quality of information disseminated while at the same time helping to address misinformation and disinformation, which are significant challenges in today's media landscape.
