Journalists and content creators have been urged to find ways of coexisting in the online space as digital platforms continue to ascend as primary sources for news and information consumption.

Media Council of Kenya CEO Mr David Omwoyo said embracing the online space will enable traditional media to harness the power of digital platforms to cater to the new generation’s demand for content consumption, ensuring that they can access news and information precisely when they desire it.

“The rise of a generation that seeks to consume content on their own terms reflects not just a shift in consumption habits but a demand for information that empowers them to navigate the world on their own schedule”, said Mr Omwoyo at the State of Film Industry in Kenya Summit.

He also noted the current collapse of monetisation model crisis being faced by traditional media encouraging them to utilize online platforms as a means to not only adapt to changing consumer preferences but also to explore innovative revenue streams in the digital space.

“Be guided by ethics, principles and truth in your production of content ensuring that ensuring that your work not only informs but also upholds the credibility and integrity of the media landscape,” he emphasised.

Mr Omwoyo urged content creators to leverage the platform to create new opportunities for themselves.
