The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) remains committed to collaborating with the county governments to ensure accurate dissemination of information.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Mr Karanja Jackson lauded the County Government of Nyeri for facilitating information access and equipping journalists with accurate and verified information.
“The Council appreciates the support offered by the County Government of Nyeri in ensuring there is a seamless flow of information ”, said Mr Karanja at a meeting with the County Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
Nyeri Governor Mr Kahiga welcomed the Council's efforts to educate journalists on reporting against alcohol and drugs abuse.
“We encourage more of these forums to equip journalists with skills that enhance reportage on alcohol and drug abuse, which is in line with the government’s campaign against alcohol and drug abuse, spearheaded by the Deputy President Mr Rigathi Gachagua”, said Mr Kahiga.
He further urged the media to use their platforms to amplify voices of truth to the people, stating that the media needs to ensure that their reporting is based on facts and aired with utmost accuracy and responsibility.
“Journalists should avoid sensationalism in their reporting. Let us not have headlines that evoke emotions and are inaccurate. The media ought to be objective and advocate for truth”, said Mr Kahiga.
