The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has reaffirmed its support for community-driven digital media initiatives, citing their role in enhancing youth employment and industry innovation.
MCK Mombasa Regional Coordinator Maureen Mudi has lauded Majestic Digital TV for leveraging the digital space to create opportunities for young people. The YouTube-based station has established itself as a key player in livestreaming football and rugby, a niche she described as unique and promising.
“The sports coverage model you have adopted is not only innovative but also positions you for immense growth in the digital media landscape”, said Ms Mudi during a visit to the station.
She emphasised the importance of ethical content creation, noting that MCK provides specialised training to equip media practitioners with the skills needed to monetise content while upholding professional standards.
“The Council recognises the impact of digital initiatives in transforming communities. Through its capacity-building programmes, MCK continues to empower media players to explore innovative storytelling, ethical journalism and digital entrepreneurship”, she said.
Majestic Digital TV, which is set to officially launch in April 2025, is among the emerging digital platforms that have embraced these principles. The station is aligning with national efforts to provide digital skills training, a key area MCK continues to support through advocacy and policy engagement.
“The Council remains committed to strengthening media professionalism in all spaces, including digital platforms, to ensure sustainability and ethical content creation”, added Ms Mudi.
