The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has urged station managers to adopt measures that enhance the effectiveness of service delivery and maintenance of operations.

The MCK Nakuru Regional Coordinator Joseph Mecha stressed the importance of implementing safety policies to enable prompt responses to attacks on journalists.

‘’It is important that media organisations prioritise the implementation of safety protocols to ensure swift and effective responses”, said Mr Mecha at an engagement with media managers in Nakuru.

Mr Mecha advised the station managers to consider the adoption and transition to online platforms to increase their visibility and to devise innovative ways to generate revenue.

“In an era where connectivity is achieved with a mere click, the visibility provided by online platforms holds immense value. The digital domain opens doors to global audiences, presenting an opportunity for the traditional media outlets to extend their reach”, noted Mr Mecha.

Mamlaka TV Manager Joseph Mathenge requested the Council to provide training on financial literacy and mental health to enhance the well-being of journalists while covering diverse stories.

“We need training on stress navigation, financial literacy and mental health. This investment not only contributes to the longevity of careers but also empowers journalists”, he emphasised.

MBCI TV Manager Willy Kimani further requested for a training by the Council on how to incorporate AI into content operation.

“The training on Artificial Intelligence will empower our teams to integrate AI into their work in a manner that enhances their ability to create content that is both creative and impactful”, said Mr Kimani.
