The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of ICT, Innovations and Youth Affairs Hon. Joe Mucheru appointed a new team of Complaints Commissioners. Their appoint was announced through a gazette notice dated Wednesday 14th October, 2020. They will serve in the MCK’s Complaints Commission for a term of 3 years.

The Seven (7) member team consists of an Advocate of the High Court who will be the chair the Commission. He will be assisted by Six (6) members who belong to various professions but have knowledge and experience in journalism, media policy and law, media regulation, business practice and finance, the performing arts or entertainment, advertising practice or related social sciences.

The newly appointed members are;

 William O. Oketch - Chairperson

  1. Henry O. Maina - Member
  2. Nancy A. Booker - Member
  3. Demus T. Kiprono - Member
  4. Esther J. A. Aduma, OGW - Member
  5. Lempaa V. Suyianka - Member
  6. Polly G. Waweru - Member

The Commissioners will be expected to perform the following duties as stipulated in the Media Act 2013.

 (a) mediate or adjudicate in disputes between the government and the media and between the public and the media and intra media on ethical issues;

 (b) ensure the adherence to high standards of journalism as provided for in the code of conduct for the practice of journalism in Kenya; and

 (c) achieve impartial, speedy and cost-effective settlement of complaints against journalists and media enterprises, without fear or favor in relation to this Act.
