The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has committed to supporting efforts to empower the youth on digital and political fronts.
MCK CEO Mr David Omwoyo has said that youth empowerment is one of the Council's focal areas of concern.
He added that the Council has been conducting Media Information Literacy (MIL) forums to sensitise them to various issues related to digital technology.
“We are keen to explore partnerships that will equip the youth with the digital skills to prepare them for the future”, he said while meeting the Executive Director from Young Women Leaders Connect.
Mr Omwoyo affirmed the Council’s support in collaborating with the organisation and called for the co-creation of ideas to attract funding for the projects.
He also mentioned that the Council will provide training on new media and communication skills for young women leaders.
Executive Director, Young Women Leaders Connect Wendy Aura explained the role of media and digital platforms in conducting their affairs.
She noted the need to enable the youth to leverage digital platforms for personal development.
“The youth are often left out on many issues. We aim to provide a platform for mentorship and visibility as well as address issues arising from technological to facilitated Gender Based Violence (GBV) among young women in politics”, she emphasised.
Ms Aura welcomed the opportunity for a pact to explore areas of synergies and enhance gender-based reporting for young women leaders.
