The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) today received the various reports from the Technical Committee it constituted in October last year to develop media guidelines on AI application, data and social media towards ensuring appropriate and ethical integration for their use in professional journalism in Kenya.
The team handed over deliverables that included: A Data Governance Guide for Media Practice in Kenya, A Media Handbook for Reporting on Artificial Intelligence in Kenya, Media Guide on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Kenya and a Guide on the use of Social Media and the Internet for Media Practice in Kenya.
MCK CEO David Omwoyo called for collective efforts towards ensuring impactful application of the guidelines.
"This is just but the beginning of a long collaborative process. The documents are the first products of joint efforts by various stakeholders who were represented in this taskforce", Mr Omwoyo said at the event in Mombasa this morning.
He revealed plans to enlighten journalists on the various AI aspects and their application in media work.
"We will engage to see the real impact of this work by establishing a pool of accredited data and AI trainers to guide journalists and media practitioners", he said.
