Public institutions have been encouraged to proactively engage the media in their activities.
The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Meru Regional Coordinator Mr Jackson Karanja said that dissemination of accurate and timely information aids in strengthening public awareness while creating understanding of governmental initiatives.
He buttressed the importance of effective communication saying that the success of governmental plans and projects depends on timely access to information to achieve the desired goal.
"We live in an age where information preparation and relay are to the achieve the organisations' objectives," said Mr Karanja during a stakeholders’ validation workshop in Nyeri County
He reiterated the Council's plan to enhance the capacity of public communicators and stressed the need for public institutions to play a proactive role in implementing their communication strategies to enable them foster direct and transparent engagements with the public.
“The aim is to ensure that government plans and projects are communicated accurately and promptly to the public to wade off the challenges brought about by the digital age”, he added.
