The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) continues to strengthen stakeholder relations in a bid to promote professionalism in the media.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Mr Karanja Jackson visited Meru County Commissioner Mr Fred Ndunga to appraise him on the work of the Council and areas of partnership in Meru region.
He affirmed the Council’s commitment to collaborate with administrative units to build the capacity of journalists within the county to effectively report on matters of public interest.
“As a Council we remain committed to ensuring that media workers in Meru County are professionally enabled to report on various issues affecting the area and eliciting necessary responses”, he said.
He further noted that the Council will work towards holding security dialogue meetings between the media and the county security teams to help in building strong working relations between the two fraternities.
“The dialogue meetings between the security organs and the media will not only help in fostering good working relations but will also go a long way in ensuring adequate and steady flow of information on issues related to the security of the county”, added Mr. Karanja.
The County Commissioner hailed the media for its role and efforts in the lead up to the 2022 General Election in propagating messages of peace and cohesion among the people in Kenya.
He emphasised the importance of nurturing the cordial working relations between the county administration and the media and urged them to highlight and sensitise the communities against societal vices such as insecurity and sexual and gender-based violence.
“The media should not only highlight and report such cases but also sensitise the communities on the adverse effects of such acts on families and households,” noted Mr Ndunga.
