The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has urged journalists in the country to adopt solution-based journalism in their reporting.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Karanja Jackson stated that solution-based journalism aims to help address societal challenges while giving hope to the community.
“While traditional journalism often emphasises on political issues, solution-based journalism aims to provide a more balanced and constructive perspective by showcasing successful efforts, innovative solutions and positive initiatives in the society”, said Mr Karanja while speaking at a journalists’ sensitisation forum in Murang’a County.
He noted the advantages associated with this kind of reporting saying that it's effective in mobilising communities to rise above their problems and strategically deal with issues affecting them.
“Solution-based journalism examines both successes and failures, by providing a more nuanced understanding of issues at hand. It is an approach to reporting news and stories that focuses on solutions rather than just highlighting problems,” remarked Mr Karanja.
He commended the Murang’a based journalists on the formation of a Press Association, noting that they are the future of journalism.
“At a time where technological advancements have disrupted the working of media houses with repeated cases of layoffs, the umbrella of associations and press clubs will offer a safe haven for journalists”, said Mr. Karanja.
