The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called on media associations nationwide to play an active role in promoting professionalism and ethical journalism practices.
Meru Regional Coordinator, Jackson Karanja illustrated the crucial role of media associations in enhancing compliance.
He said that ethical journalism will improve media credibility and build audience trust.
“Media associations must take the lead in fostering a culture of ethical reporting, accurate news dissemination, and fair commentary. This is not only a matter of professional responsibility but also a fundamental duty to the public”, he said in a meeting with Isiolo Press Club officials.
Mr Karanja expressed concerns over the increased prevalence of misinformation and other emerging issues that pose a challenge to the media industry. He urged the officials to work diligently in addressing thee issues.
“By upholding high standards of journalism, we can enhance the credibility of the media industry and restore public trust,” he added.
Isiolo Press Club Chairperson Benson Waweru reiterated that media associations are the backbone of journalists and therefore officials must be at the forefront of advancing professionalism.
“Media associations can play a vital role in providing resources, training and legal support to journalists. This will empower them to deliver quality journalism and hold those in power accountable,”noted Waweru.
