Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs Dr Musalia Mudavadi has highlighted the vital role of media in diplomacy, shaping public opinion, and driving international narratives.

He noted that the Ministry’s committed to working with the media by providing sufficient information to enhance the country’s global image.

“The media is a critical player in shaping the perception through the narratives they give. It's important to ensure that the information we disseminate helps to build the country’s diplomatic presence in the global arena”, he said during the 2014 Kenya Policy Review meeting at Kempinski Hotel.

 “The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs will work closely with journalists to provide them with timely and sufficient information,” he added.

Dr Mudavadi stressed the importance of responsible journalism in ensuring that the country’s diplomatic objectives are effectively communicated, while simultaneously safeguarding the nation’s reputation.

 “The media should prioritise accurate reporting to uphold the highest ethical standards in the profession,” he noted.

Ministry of Information Communication and the Digital Economy Principal Secretary, State Department for Broadcast Prof Edward Kisiang'ani reiterated the role of media while cautioning journalists against reporting sensitive diplomatic that may taint the country’s image.

“Journalists should avoid publishing sensitive diplomatic information that could potentially harm Kenya’s image. Media professionals must understand the gravity of their role in international reporting, especially when dealing with sensitive foreign affairs matters,” he stated.

Media Council of Kenya  CEO David Omwoyo called on the media to advance the country’s foreign policy through responsible reporting by practicing strategic communication. He said that media helps build global partnerships and influence international perception.

“The media needs to play a proactive role in advancing Kenya’s foreign policy. Through responsible reporting and strategic communication, the media can help build stronger global partnerships and influence international perceptions of Kenya,” he noted.
