The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has emphasised the critical role communication plays in improving institutional impact.
MCK Manager for Research, Planning and Strategy Leo Mutisya says effective media engagement remains key in enhancing institutional visibility.
Mr Mutisya told a meeting with management of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) that clear communication strategies ensures that the public and stakeholders understand institutional goals and achievements.
“Kenya Medical Training College has great potential to establish itself as a leader in health training, but media visibility is essential. There is a need to align the communication strategies with the health sector’s goals to maximise its impact,” he said during a meeting with the institution’s management.
Mr Mutisya urged KMTC to leverage the Council’s expertise to streamline messaging and boost media engagement.
“By training staff on how to effectively engage with the media, we can help ensure that an organisation’s message is clear and concise” he added.
MCK Manager for Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Jerry Abuga echoed the sentiments and encouraged KMTC to tap the growing influence of social media to enhance its public image.
He noted the need for proactive measures to counter misinformation and build a positive narrative around the institution’s contributions to health training.
“KMTC must take a proactive approach to manage its social media presence. Sharing success stories and using positive testimonials will help counter any misinformation and enhance the institution’s public image,” he stated.
He also highlighted the potential for digital platforms, particularly digital magazines, in boosting brand visibility.
“Digital magazines offer a unique opportunity to showcase your achievements and research outputs to a broader audience,” he mentioned.
KMTC Head of Corporate Communications Marcellah Onsomu expressed her appreciation for the Council’s support to improve media engagement.
“Partnering with MCK will enable us to leverage your expertise in media training and communication strategies, ensuring that we effectively convey our initiatives to our stakeholders,” she noted.
Both institutions agreed to collaborate on key areas that would aid in amplifying KMTC’s image while ensuring effective media relations and ultimately professional coverage of medical training in Kenya.
