The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has emphasised the importance of establishing clear metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of information dissemination and public engagement strategies.
MCK Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja called on public communication officers to adopt measurable indicators to assess the success of their communication efforts and public engagement strategies.
“Metrics such audience reach, accuracy of information relayed, public feedback, and response times are vital in establishing the success of the information that we relay to the audience on public service delivery,” he said during a meeting with Kenya News Agency (KNA) officials in Meru County.
Mr Karanja noted that metrics provide insights into how effectively information is being communicated to the public and if it fosters trust, understanding, and engagement.
“Regular assessments using these metrics will enable the KNA to identify areas of improvement, adapt their strategies, and ensure that the public remains well-informed and engaged in matters of public service delivery.
He urged the officers to embrace digital technology in the relay of communication on public service delivery.
“To effectively serve the public, we must establish clear communication channels that ensure timely and accurate information sharing. Digital advancements in technology have presented us with diverse platforms that if adequately utilised, will improve the flow of information to the public,” said Mr. Karanja.
Meru County Information Officer Judy Muguongo echoed these sentiments, underscoring the role of regular assessments in ensuring accountability.
“Consistent evaluations will help keep us accountable and enable us to make necessary adjustments in our communication strategies,” she stated.
The meeting is in line with the Council’s commitment to improving communication standards and ensuring that the public is well-informed and engaged.
