The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has emphasised the importance of nurturing healthy media relations to foster a robust engagement between media and the corporate world.

MCK Mombasa Regional Coordinator Ms Maureen Mudi underlined the importance of training management in boards in media relations to maximise positive coverage and maintain an ongoing healthy relationship with the media.

“MCK has in the past conducted such trainings for government parastatals and other organisations and this has cultivated better relations and understanding between media and those organisations”, said Ms Mudi during a courtesy visit by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Head of Corporate Affairs Mr Benard Osero.

Mr Osero reiterated on the need to train management in boards on media relations and explore partnerships and media development opportunities in the region.

He added that organisations such as KPA have a responsibility to inform the public about their mandate and this can be effectively achieved through the media.

“When top management of an organisation is aware of the benefits of good media relations, they reap the benefits of positive publicity”, he said.

The duo agreed to plan for an engagement that will see board members trained and equipped with necessary skills to engage and build possible partnerships with the media.
