The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has committed to working closely with county information officers to foster responsible and accountable journalism in their counties.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Mr Karanja Jackson has reiterated the Council’s pledge to work with county information officers to promote professionalism in the media.
“The Council remains committed to fostering professionalism and accountable journalism to ensure that the society remains accurately informed of events around the county,” Mr Karanja told Meru County Information Director Margaret Makaa.
He mentioned that the Council, through his office, will endeavor to build capacity of journalists and County information officers in the region on various thematic areas aimed at enhancing professionalism.
Ms Makaa emphasised the need for both media and devolved units to foster cordial working relations, adding that this would aid in addressing some of the existing gaps when reporting on devolution stories.
“Our journalists today rarely report on positive stories in the society, yet these stories would go a long way in giving messages of hope to the community. We need to enhance the working relationship between county communications teams and media to create a conducive environment to enable access to information for factual reporting on county issues,” said the official.
