The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has tasked media houses with prioritising public-focused reporting that drives development and addresses community concerns.
MCK’s Meru Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja stressed the value of solution-based journalism in tackling societal challenges.
He encouraged radio stations to produce content that aligns with public needs, promotes constructive dialogue, and strengthens community engagement.
“The media plays a pivotal role in shaping public discourse and fostering development. I urge journalists and media practitioners to create content that informs, educates and empowers communities,” Karanja remarked during a tour of media outlets in Samburu County.
He also highlighted the need for accuracy, fairness and ethical reporting, advising journalists to verify information before sharing it with the public.
Throughout his visit, Karanja emphasised the importance of professionalism in news reporting and programming.
The Regional Coordinator toured several stations in Maralal, including Serian FM, Watchman FM, Radio Mchungaji, Supa FM and Radio Ashe.
The visit is part of the Media Council of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to enhance professionalism and promote quality journalism across the country.
