The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called on security agencies to strengthen partnerships with the media to promote stability and development in counties.
MCK Meru Coordinator, Jackson Karanja, stressed the importance of a strong working relationship between journalists and law enforcement for the timely and accurate dissemination of information that benefits public safety and socio-economic progress.
“The media and security agencies share a common goal in ensuring stability and the well-being of our communities. By fostering collaboration, we can build trust, enhance transparency, and support county growth”, he said during a media-security dialogue in Marsabit County.
He encouraged the media to serve as progressive agents of change by showcasing the unique attributes of the region.
“Marsabit County is a land of unparalleled beauty and cultural richness, yet its narrative often centers around challenges. The media has a unique opportunity to spotlight the county’s strengths, its vibrant communities, untapped potential, and the resilience of its people. By telling these stories, we can attract investment, foster unity, and inspire pride among residents”, he added.
Marsabit County Commissioner Paul Kamau emphasised that strong relations between the media and local security teams can significantly advance development efforts.
“The media is a critical partner in promoting peace and stability in Marsabit and beyond. By working closely with journalists, we can share accurate information and foster understanding within our communities”, he noted.
Mr Kamau further argued that concerted efforts between the two parties would assist with highlighting the progress made and rally the community to support peace building efforts despite the ongoing challenges in the county.
