The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called on young people to strengthen their digital skills and embrace credible media consumption.

During an interactive session at Sheikh Abdallah Al Farsy Girls’ Secondary School and Mombasa Baptist High School, MCK Mombasa Regional Coordinator Maureen Mudi emphasised the Council’s commitment to strengthening journalism clubs and equipping students with media literacy skills.

“We are supporting schools to build vibrant journalism clubs that prepare students for careers in the media industry,” she said, adding that media literacy encompasses more than just consuming information—it involves critical thinking, responsible content creation, and fact-checking.

Ms. Mudi encouraged students to explore digital opportunities such as podcasting, social media storytelling, and website creation to expand their reach.

Mombasa Press Club Chairman Omar Abdallah assured students of mentorship support, urging them to explore diverse media career paths beyond traditional journalism.

School officials welcomed the initiative, pledging to strengthen their journalism clubs and enhance collaboration with MCK in promoting responsible media practices.
