The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with institutions to ensure seamless access to information.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja says timely information dissemination fosters national development by empowering the public.
"Access to information empowers citizens to make informed decisions, hold leaders accountable and actively participate in governance", he said during a visit to the Commission for Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman)/ CAJ in the Meru Region.
CAJ Legal Officer Franklin Muthomi Nyaga welcomed the visit which focused on strengthening collaboration and implementing the existing Memorandum of Understanding between MCK and the Office of the Ombudsman.
“The partnership between our institutions is critical for creating an informed society and promoting good governance. Together, we can bridge gaps in information dissemination and public engagement”, said Nyaga.
The meeting explored joint initiatives, including public forums, training sessions and media campaigns to raise public awareness of their right to access information.
Mr Karanja highlighted the transformative role of media platforms in this endeavor.
“The media serves as a powerful tool to disseminate information and engage audiences. By working together, we can create impactful narratives that educate and inspire citizens to exercise their rights”, he added.
The meeting reinforced the shared commitment of the Council and the Office of the Ombudsman to prioritise access to information as a cornerstone of national development.
