The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called on Public Relations (PR) and communication professionals to prioritise Access to Information for effective communication.
MCK Regional Coordinator Maureen Mudi brought fore the importance of legal and ethical considerations in communication.
“Communicators must share information proactively, build relationships with journalists, and maintain transparency in media interactions. Technology has simplified access, and professionals should take advantage of this,” she said at a capacity-building session for the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) team in Mombasa,
Ms Mudi highlighted Kenya's constitutional guarantees on freedom of expression and access to information. She urged communicators to comply with relevant media laws and adopt regular risk assessments and staff training.
Black Gold Consult Technology Limited’s Media consultant Elkana Jacob echoed the need for access to information terming it vital for fostering transparency and trust.
“Organisations must embrace innovation and timeliness in communication to engage audiences effectively in today’s dynamic media landscape,” he noted.
KPA’s Acting Manager for Corporate Communications Jonnes Buchere commended the training’s relevance, describing communication as critical to organisational success.
The session focused on equipping professionals with tools to foster transparency, trust, and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
