The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has asked stakeholders in children’s rights to work closely with the media for responsible reporting on children’s issues.
MCK Mombasa Regional Coordinator Maureen Mudi told journalists to maintain ethics in children's reporting, noting that they are essential to safeguarding children’s rights and dignity.
"Collaboration and partnerships foster a media environment that prioritises children's well-being, encouraging a respectful approach to issues impacting young lives", she said during the National Child Justice Service Month launch.
She added that the Council continues to empower journalists to report on children’s issues through capacity building, skill enhancement, and stakeholder engagement.
“To further our commitment to ethical and accurate journalism, the MCK Africa Media Academy offers online targeted modules in various subjects, including child reporting”, she noted.
Kenya Children Assemblies President Samuel Smith spelled out the objective of the initiative in enhancing collective responsibility to protect, support, and advance the rights of children in Kenya.
"Every child deserves an equal chance to grow in a safe environment where their rights are respected and their voices are heard", he stated.
The meeting comprised stakeholders from government agencies, county government, child protection organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations, educators, legal professionals, and community leaders.
