The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) is training staff as part of laying ground for the official launch of short online courses to enhance professionalism among journalists and media practitioners in Kenya.

The training is aimed at increasing MCK staff’s capacity to deliver e-learning content, including on election reporting ahead of the August polls.

The online courses will be rolled out through the Council’s Africa Media Academy and will cover specialisations and core journalism courses.

MCK Director for Media Training and Development Mr Victor Bwire said the Council has stepped up its capacity to meet its mandate of ensuring media standards.

“The training comes ahead of the launch of the Media Council of Kenya's Africa Media Academy portal that will be used to deliver a number of core and specialised courses that complement what colleges do,” Mr Bwire said during an e-learning capacity building and Trainer of Trainers (ToT) session at Aga Khan University.

The first session was conducted by Breldan Muturi and Anne Wanjiku of Sohn & Sol Technologies Ltd which developed the MCK Africa Media Academy e-learning system.

Other trainers are Prof Nancy Booker from the Graduate School of Media and Communications, veteran editor and media consultant David Aduda, Soraiya Shah and Alykhan Peermohamed.

The Africa Media Academy serves the needs of media professionals in management, editorial and content development positions by providing them with continuous professional development courses, workshops and seminars through open, in-house and online delivery.
