The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called on journalists and media houses to embrace solution-based journalism to highlight the growing needs in society.
MCK Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja told journalists that this approach will push for more constructive narratives that foster innovation, drive community engagement, and empower audiences to be part of the solutions.
“Solutions journalism is not about avoiding the problems; it’s about digging deeper to find out what is working, how it’s working, and what can be learned from it. It empowers communities to see the possibility of change,” said Karanja during a sensitization forum for journalists from various media outlets in Meru County.
He emphasised that solution journalism aims to shift focus from problems to ways in which communities and organisations can address challenges.
"In an age that is marred by a myriad of challenges, solution-based journalism is key in shifting the focus. It allows us to concentrate on the efforts being made to solve these problems while providing the audiences with a chance to engage with those driving change while contributing to the solution”, he added.
