The Media Council of Kenya has urged journalists to observe high professional standards while reporting legislative matters.
MCK CEO Mr David Omwoyo says law-making matters are sensitive and have far-reaching impact hence the need for accurate coverage.
Mr Omwoyo who spoke today in Mombasa during a joint media engagement between the National Assembly and members of the Kenya Parliamentary Journalists Association (KPJA) said the Council remains committed to continue building the capacity of journalists in both legislative and financial reporting to address notable challenges in the quality of reporting.
“Financial and legislative reporting are some of the most challenging for journalists. This calls for constant capacity building and sharing of information to ensure quality reporting that responds to matters of public interest”, he said.
Speaker of the National Assembly Honourable Justin Muturi applauded the Council for its willingness to support initiatives that enhance the capacity of journalists in legislative reporting and other matters of public interest.
“I urge the Council to continue in the same spirit even in the next House so that we nature upcoming reporters who aspire to specialise in legislative reporting”, he said.
