The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has said that strategic partnerships will enhance the media’s role in reporting the impact of regional integration.
MCK Manager, Research Planning and Strategy Leo Mutisya said that media is critical in shaping public understanding and perception of regional integration.
“A well-informed public contributes to the success of regional integration efforts. It is our responsibility to equip journalists with necessary skills and resources to deliver accurate, balanced, and insightful coverage on these complex issues”, he said during a meeting with the Ministry of East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and Regional Development.
The Ministry of East African Community the ASALs and Regional Development, Deputy Director of Regional Integration Dr. Alice Yalla pledged the Ministry’s commitment to support initiatives that promote public awareness and understanding of regional integration.
“For a crucial and seamless integration of the East African region, the Ministry is committed to working closely with MCK and other stakeholders to enable the media to execute its role in this transformative process”, she noted.
“The Ministry aims to create a collaborative environment that ensures media coverage plays a role in cultivating an informed and engaged public, capable of shedding light on the outcomes of regional integration”, she added.
MCK Senior Officer, Grants, Fundraising, Partnerships and Government Relations John Munyiri echoed the importance of collaboration between the entities noting its impact on the information flow within the region.
“The Council is part of the newly established East Africa Press Councils which aims to build the capacity of journalists across the region to report authoritatively on issues associated with regional integration”, he said.
