The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has highlighted the crucial role of youth engagement in media development and in fostering a vibrant broadcast landscape.
MCK Mombasa Regional Coordinator Maureen Mudi says stories by the youth can best be told by them, given their familiarity with the dynamics affecting the group.
“Media stations need to prioritise telling youth narratives and amplifying their voices in order to foster a vibrant broadcasting environment”, said MCK Mombasa Regional Coordinator Maureen Mudi during the launch of Swahili Pot FM.
She noted that the launch of the radio station coincided with the global observance of International Youth Day, a day that serves to acknowledge the creativity, innovation and contributions of young people to society.
“In a rapidly evolving media landscape, Swahili Pot FM stands as a beacon for youth empowerment, shaping the future of our communities through authentic storytelling and engagement”, she said.
Founder and Chief Mentor of the Swahili Pot Hub Foundation Mahmoud Noor further emphasised that Swahili Pot FM plays an important role in shaping regional broadcasting, fostering innovation and amplifying community voices.
“Swahili Pot FM serves as a vibrant platform where the youth can express themselves, foster creativity and innovation through their broadcasts”, he stated.
The Founder and Patron of Smart Mechanised Agriculture and Climate Action for Humanity and Sustainability (SMACHS) Foundation Charlene Ruto, made a special appearance and gave an exclusive interview at the launch, setting the tone for the day’s celebrations.
