The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) is urging aspiring journalists to utilise technological advancements to enhance their professional development.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Jackson Karaja said the media space has undergone rapid developments which have offered diverse opportunities for students in journalism to earn and learn from.
“Technological innovations have transformed journalism today, providing an opportunity for personal skills development in the field”, Mr Karanja told journalism students at Meru University during a mentorship session.
Mr Karanja urged journalists to capitalise on these platforms to sharpen their talents.
“I encourage you to start your own YouTube channels, podcasts, blogs and vlogs. The experience gained from these platforms will go a long way in honing your skills in the media landscape”, he noted.
He asked the students to apply for the various grants offered by the Council by pitching their story ideas.
“The Council supports media efforts at all levels and invites journalists and media practitioners to submit story ideas or proposals for grants. It is important to take advantage of such opportunities”, noted Mr Karanja.
