The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has urged media institutions to incorporate emerging trends in the media industry into their curriculum.
MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja says journalism graduates should reflect on current trends in educational programmes, saying it is crucial for maintaining competitiveness and relevance in the job market.
“The media landscape is rapidly evolving. It is important that our educational institutions remain in sync with these changes”, he said during a professional career engagement session with students at the Meru Institute of Business Studies.
He stressed the need for educational institutions to update teaching programmes to align with changes in consumer behaviour and the rise of digital platforms.
“Our graduates need to be innovators and leaders in the media field. This can only happen if we prepare them with a curriculum that reflects the realities of the modern media environment”, said Mr Karanja.
MCK Media Analyst Evans Kiogora further stated the importance of accreditation for student and the role it plays in maintaining professionalism, saying it is a formal recognition that a journalist meets the required professional standards.
