In our continued efforts to enhance collaborations, the Media Council of Kenya Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo today hosted the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) President Arik Karani at the Council offices to discuss a strategic partnership between MCK and PRSK. The partnership will equip and recognise public communication officers for the integral role they play in communicating government policies and programmes.
MCK CEO David Omwoyo says Kenya’s public communications officers play a critical role in Kenya’s development, but which has “largely gone unappreciated”.
“Public communications officers across government ministries, agencies and at the counties are doing a splendid job that needs recognition. They also form the bulk of PRSK membership. However, the annual excellence awards never recognises their contribution to public discourses”, Mr Omwoyo told the PRSK team.
He added that acknowledging and celebrating outstanding public relations work in government “is key in enhancing public policy dissemination on efforts to address the various socio-economic and political challenges in the country”.
“It is true there has been inadequate communication around some of the issues the country currently grapples with and it is only through motivating and exposing our public communicators that such can be progressively addressed”, he said.
Mr Omwoyo at the same time urged the umbrella PR body to curate its annual meet around leadership, saying “the country hosts enough communication professionals with immense potential to become leaders across different spheres”.
The PRSK President assured the Council of the Society’s readiness to support strategic collaborations, saying benefits will cascade to members.
“This engagement is timely given that we are in the process of reviewing our operations to enhance impact and more opportunities for our members”, said Mr Karani.
