The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has affirmed its commitment to work with the Mombasa County Government to explore collaborations.

MCK Mombasa Regional Coordinator Ms Maureen Mudi underscored the importance of joint events that seek to bring together media professionals, the County Government, creatives and youth to foster collaboration and networking.

“We are exploring the possibility of establishing dedicated spaces for journalists and those in the creative space to showcase their innovations and create opportunities for themselves”, said Ms Mudi at a meeting with the Mombasa County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Public Service Administration Youth Gender Sports and Social Services Mr Kenneth Ambani.

The two deliberated on matters of creatives, youth and innovation, with a focus particularly on the transformative power of the media and creative industries in driving positive change in the county.

“The media plays a significant role in amplifying youth voices and concerns. There is a need to explore collaborative efforts in organising capacity-building programmes for media professionals and creatives”, affirmed Ms Mudi.

Mr Ambani said the county is actively involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting creativity, empowering youth, and fostering innovations to improve the well-being of the county and its inhabitants.

“We have been engaged in several initiatives aimed at supporting the youth that aim at raising the standards of our sports games and nurturing talents”, he said.

He emphasised the importance of training programmes and strategies that align with county goals in promoting ethical journalism.

The duo discussed the potential for media coverage of county-led initiatives and youth-focused events, while highlighting MCK’s role in fostering positive engagement between the media and various stakeholders.
