The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called upon media associations and press clubs to play a pivotal role in championing professionalism within the industry.

MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Karanja Jackson emphasised the crucial role of media in shaping public opinion and fostering informed societies.

He pointed out the need for unity amongst journalists noting that it’s a key component in ensuring the upholding of principles of professionalism in journalism.

"By empowering media associations and press clubs to take the lead in their endeavours, the Council aims to foster a media landscape characterised by accuracy, fairness, and a steadfast commitment to serving the public interest", noted Mr Karanja during a meeting with officials from the Meru Press Club.

Mr Karanja urged the officials of the Meru Press Club to take an active role in practicing sound leadership to promote professionalism noting that they play an instrumental role in shaping media perception among the masses.

Additionally, he pledged the Council's support in the establishment and growth of media clubs and associations across the country, a deliberate move aimed at streamlining media practice while ensuring the sustainability of media in Kenya.

“As part of our commitment to supporting the government’s digital transformation agenda, the Council will establish digital and information hubs across the country. This initiative aims to facilitate journalists with a space to network, share ideas and file stories.”, he added.
