The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has underscored the importance of equipping media technicians with digital skills to enhance their capacity in a rapidly changing media landscape.

MCK Kisumu Regional Coordinator Evans Teddy told a training and sensitisation forum for journalists in Kisumu that regular engagements enable media workers to understand and shape conversations that drive the practice of journalism in the changing media landscape.

“The programme seeks to provide journalists with the necessary tools to confirm information and handle obstacles of the digital age. This extensive initiative aims to improve media accuracy and reliability”, he said.

Mr Teddy noted that the changing media landscape has come with new media consumption trends, which he said media players should be cognisant of.

“In an information overload economy, our audiences seem to have a limited attention span. Content creation must therefore be remodified to meet the ever-changing information needs”, he stated.

MCK Outreach and Liaison Officer George Nyamita stressed the need for media stakeholders to strategies and implement innovative approaches through local content creation and positively embracing Artificial Intelligence to improve media output and generate new revenue models.

The meeting brought together representatives from Equator Radio, Jabali Media, Sky FM, KBC and Kala TV.
