Journalists and communication officers have been urged to embody qualities of boldness, bravery, and responsibility in reporting integrity issues.

MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja told the journalists that being bold is not only about being brave while speaking to power but also being able to rise above pressures that often attempt to influence the working of the media fraternity.

“Responsibility in reporting calls for accountability and a sense of duty towards the public. It is your duty to present a fair, balanced, and accurate account of events, avoiding sensationalism, biases, and misleading information,” said Mr. Karanja during an outreach visit to media outlets in Laikipia County.

Mr Karanja encouraged the communicators to take their roles seriously to enhance democracy and build trust in the media.

“By adhering to these principles, we as journalists and communication officers can contribute to enhancing the integrity and credibility of the media. This, in turn, plays a vital role in informing the public and maintaining a healthy democracy,” He said.

He further called on journalists to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, by verifying facts, avoiding bias, and ensuring that their reporting is accurate and fair.

“Responsibility is the bedrock of trust between the media and the public, and without it, we will be failing to abide by the fundamental principles that make us who we are,” said Mr. Karanja.
