Media Council of Kenya (MCK) in conjunction with the Meru County Conservatory Office and the Meru Press Club teamed up for a tree planting activity in Meru Primary to promote environmental conservation and sustainability.

Speaking at a tree planting event in Meru Primary School, MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Mr Jackson Karanja noted the importance of creating awareness of trees in our ecosystem.

“Today’s exercise marks the beginning of implementing the national tree planting initiative launched by the President early this year. The trees planted today are not only environmentally beneficial but will also provide nutritious fruits for the school and the surrounding community”, said Mr Karanja.

Mr Karanja further mentioned the Council’s plans to collaborate with schools and communities across the country by organising similar tree planting events and environmental awareness campaigns.

“This initiative aligns with our commitment to promoting responsible media reporting on environmental issues and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship,” he said.

He reiterated that the tree planting initiative is part of the government’s project aimed at planting 15 billion trees by 2032 to reduce greenhouse emissions, to stop and reverse deforestation.
