The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has encouraged students to harness social media strategically to boost their careers while adhering to ethical journalism standards.
MCK Nakuru Regional Coordinator Joseph Mecha emphasised social media’s rising role in shaping professional prospects.
He urged students to post thoughtfully, cautioning that their online footprint could shape their future.
“Social media offers endless opportunities, but reckless posts can haunt you for years, affecting your career and reputation. Be deliberate, responsible, and safeguard your future with smart choices”, cautioned during a student sensitisation programme at Laikipia University.
Mecha also highlighted the value of the MCK press card, urging students to use it to access critical information and embrace the journalistic code of conduct.
“The press card opens doors to vital resources, empowering you to practice ethical journalism. Upholding these standards protects your credibility and bolsters the media industry’s integrity”, he added.
