Media students have been urged to participate in mentorship programmes in order to augment their professional growth.
The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Mombasa Regional Coordinator Maureen Mudi says mentorship is an essential aspect of education and an effective means of guiding students towards achieving their personal goals.
“We believe in the power of mentorship and take pride when we see those we have nurtured succeed”, Ms Mudi said at a meeting with representatives from Mount Kenya University (MKU), Mombasa Campus.
MCK’s Accreditation Officer Geraldine Mukala explained the importance of accrediting students, stating that it had its own advantages even at their level.
“The MCK press card allows students to access information, internships programmes and eligibility to apply for grants and journalism awards”, said Ms Mukala.
MKU Student Leader Abdisturem Sayid said the campus is working towards improving its facilities for students to ensure they have equipments to develop their skills.
“The school recently acquired a studio for media students to improve their performance and build their confidence”, said Sayid.
MKU Representative Ms Vivian Mwende mentioned that most students were unaware of the importance of accreditation and the accreditation guidelines.
“The meeting has been insightful in educating us on matters to do with accreditation”, said Ms Mwende.
