The Media Council of Kenya in partnership with Internews Kenya hosted stakeholders to discuss key issues affecting media viability and sustainability in Kenya.

The event is part of an ongoing partnership between the two institutions to build the capacity of community media in strengthening their sustainability in the wake a myriad of challenges including weak business models and low access to government advertising opportunities.

The meeting that brought together representatives of community media, independent content developers, Government Advertising Agency (GAA) and the Kenya Audience Research Foundation also discussed gaps in the mobilisation and mainstreaming of audience research data that is critical in allocation of advertising opportunities.

The Council has been working with GAA to improve access to government advertising by community media.
