The Media Council of Kenya has signed a working agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) towards preparing the media for this year's General Election.

The partnership will among others, establish a network of fact-checking desks underpinned by the provision of the iVerify platform to the Media Council of Kenya and provide support to media and multi-stakeholder coordination and media, information and digital literacy forums.

It will also support high-level dialogue, media debates and media productions for public education and other media-based activities for public participation and awareness raising.

The partnership will extend support to media training on gender and conflict-sensitive reporting, hate speech, misinformation, cyber bullying and fake news in reporting. It will also support implementation of protocols and tools to curb fake news and misinformation besides capacity development on monitoring and fact-checking of social media spaces to counter misinformation and disinformation.

Under the collaboration, the Media Council and UNDP will review, update, and disseminate media guidelines for responsible electoral reporting and public education in the context of reform agenda.
