The Media Council of Kenya’s (MCK) Kisumu Regional Office commemorated World Radio Day on February 13th, emphasising radio’s crucial role in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Speaking at the event, Eng. Asuna Bernard, Director of Water and Climate Change at Kisumu County, stressed the need for collective action in addressing climate challenges. “Radio serves as a powerful tool to educate and mobilise communities towards sustainable practises,” he said.

MCK Kisumu Regional Coordinator Evans Teddy highlighted radio’s widespread reach, urging journalists to prioritise climate change narratives to inspire positive environmental action. Senior broadcast journalist Seth Oloo echoed this, emphasising the need for well-researched, impactful climate reporting that influences policy and community engagement.

The event brought together media stakeholders, civil society organisations, and government representatives. Participants demonstrated their commitment to environmental conservation by planting over 100 tree seedlings at KBC Milimani.
