The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) says journalism clubs in learning institutions immensely contribute to nurturing talent for upcoming media workers.
The media regulator has encouraged journalism students to learn from best practice as they tread the media industry road.
MCK Kisumu Regional Coordinator Mr Teddy Evans spoke to journalism students during a journalism competition pitting students from various institutions based in Nyanza and Western regions at St. Monica Chakol Girl’s High School.
He encouraged the students to remain active in journalism clubs in order to exploit their potential. He further urged them to remain disciplined and focused while pursuing their studies.
“As a student irrespective of your career aspirations, you have a duty to work hard and remain disciplined. There are so many distractions in the contemporary world that can easily divert students from their primary goal. Strict adherence to rules and regulations is essential", noted Mr Evans.
“Nurturing talent is an extremely important aspect of preparing students for the work industry. Journalism Club patrons are encouraged to develop working structures that will guide activities for the students in those clubs for longevity and competitiveness,” he said.
During the event, the students were also exposed to the daily operations of a newsroom and rewarded by MCK, Nation Media Group and Jomo Kenyatta Foundation.
